Conference: Onomastics and its History

An interesting conference will take place in 2016 (13-15 September) at Pembroke College (University of Cambridge). It is the 2016 Colloquium of the Henry Sweet Society for the History of Linguistic ideas.

Call for Papers: Papers are invited for the 2016 Colloquium of the Henry Sweet Society which concerns itself with the history of linguistics and linguistic ideas. The topic this time will be the study of ONOMASTICS AND ITS HISTORY (papers will be 20 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes of discussion).
Aspects that may be covered in papers include, but are not limited to:
  • the study of personal and place names from the perspective of historical, comparative and synchronic linguistics;
  • the history of onomastics and approaches to the study of names;
  • sociological and historical discussions of names and naming conventions and systems.
Please submit abstracts (no more than 500 words) by 31 March 2016 for consideration by the Organising Committee to: Torsten Meißner, tm10012@cam.ac.uk.

Information on accomodation and fees:
The conference is generously sponsored by Pembroke College, Cambridge. The conference fee will be about £200 (exact amount to be confirmed) and will include conference materials, accommodation (2 nights) in single rooms in Pembroke College, reception on 13 September, lunch on 14 and 15 September, conference dinner on 14 September and tea and coffee during the day. Reductions for  guests not wishing to stay in Pembroke College and for students will be available.
